Mapping the inner world | Ibrar Sami
POETRY

A strange sadness lingers,
wrapped in canvas silence
of an unmoving space.
No one knows
how, within a skeleton-body,
old pain keeps accumulating.
Through the veins flows
a restless river,
its ache dissolving into unseen tides.
Suddenly the river stops—
the inner world of old wounds collapses.
No map is ever drawn of this river;
each breath becomes its boundary.
The city changes every night—
roads come to a halt,
yet the traveller does not.
Only the sound of broken banks remains in the distance.
